Senior Interventional Cardiologist

Dr Shailesh Khatri is one of Australia's most experienced senior interventional cardiologists. Originally from Fiji, he came to Australia in 1983 and earned his medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1990.
Cardiology training followed at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Prince Charles Hospital and John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle. In 2001 he completed a prestigious Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, Canada — under the personal mentorship of Professor John Webb, one of the world's most celebrated interventional cardiologists — performing over 1,200 procedures during his fellowship tenure.
Returning to the Gold Coast, Dr Khatri built what has become one of Australia's highest-volume interventional cardiology practices — having personally performed over 15,000 procedures. His 24/7 emergency service ensures life-saving cardiac care is available to the Gold Coast community at any hour.
He is an Adjunct Professor at Bond University and is actively involved in post-graduate cardiac education. Over 20 years ago, he established the Primary PCI service at Tweed Hospital, extending emergency cardiac care to uninsured patients from NSW's Northern Rivers region — a legacy that continues to save lives today.

His 24/7 emergency cardiac service — including over 1,500 life-saving Primary PCI procedures — underscores a commitment to the Gold Coast community that has defined his career for over a quarter century.
Over 20 years ago, Dr Khatri identified a critical gap: patients experiencing heart attacks in the Northern Rivers region of NSW — many of them uninsured — had no access to emergency angioplasty close to home.
Without mandate or financial incentive, he established the Primary PCI service at Tweed Hospital entirely for the benefit of uninsured patients from across the New South Wales border. That service continues operating today, saving lives that would otherwise have been lost.
This is the measure of Dr Khatri's commitment — not just to his private patients, but to anyone in the community whose heart needs urgent care, regardless of circumstance.
Access to life-saving cardiac care should not depend on which side of a border you live on, or whether you hold private health insurance.
With one of Australia's most experienced interventional cardiology practices, Dr Khatri combines international-standard training, a high-volume track record, and a genuine commitment to his community.
His practice at John Flynn Private Hospital offers the full spectrum of interventional cardiology — from routine diagnostic angiography to complex structural heart procedures — backed by 25 years of Gold Coast experience.
